Brooklyn native and Los Angeles transplant (by way of London), The Angel has charted unparalleled ground as a woman in a male dominated industry, combining her skills as a record producer and composer. Critically acclaimed for pioneering an eclectic sound that is both urban and electronic, The Angel has had the opportunity to incorporate many diverse flavors into her records as well as TV and film compositions. She is known for blending musical genres with a healthy dose of irreverence, using both traditional and more contemporary instrumentation. Featured on the cover of he LA Weekly The Angel was described as "fiercely independent" as she has worked outside the system creatively, while establishing herself as a trendsetter within the mainstream.
Having acquired technical expertise in programming and engineering early on in her career, Angel put her skills to work, self-producing, writing and recording artist albums under three monikers; The Angel, 60 Channels and Jaz Klash. In 1997, Angel was introduced to the producers of "Gridlock'd" (Tim Roth / Tupac) for her first scoring opportunity. The jazzy but contemporary flavor of her remix of Donald Byrd's "Kofi," (Blue Note) was the thing that first caught director, Vondie Curtis-Hall's ear. Since then, Angel has scored diverse international film and television projects including the cutting edge and provocative hit UK feature, “KiDULTHOOD,” (Noel Clarke), New Line Cinema's “Boiler Room” (Giovanni Ribisi, Ben Afffleck, Vin Diesel), the Miramax documentary, “The Heart of The Game”, the Fox procedural drama, “Standoff” (Ron Livingston, Rosemarie DeWitt) and the Lifetime original movie, “Racing For Time” (Charles Dutton) among others.
Currently based in Los Angeles, Angel has established a music production company (Devilishly Good Productions), record label (Supa Crucial Recordings) and publishing company (Supa Crucial Music), as she continues to produce cutting edge records that span the electronic genre; downtempo, hip hop, drum 'n bass and dubstep. Much of her catalogue has been used in films, and the TV shows “24”, “True Blood” and “The Wire” to name a few.
The fresh and unique approach Angel takes to scoring is an amalgamation of influences from her many homes and diverse cultural environments. She prides herself on being able to adapt her unique style to each project; getting involved early, reading scripts, analyzing characters and storylines, before there are visuals to work with. She has found a niche in being able to bring real credibility to youth driven projects that have required the score to be in line with the hip source music, but she has also worked in mainstream television, where hip sensibilities have taken a back seat to her more traditional dramatic work.
Angel's most recent work includes; "Gaia", an emotional, stunning, award winning art house film with an organic semi acoustic feel, the character study "Bedrooms", (Moon Bloodgood, Julie Benz) which is theme driven and more traditional, the second season of the Jada Pinkett-Smith drama, “HawthoRNe” (TNT) and the UK independent feature "Everywhere And Nowhere" set for May 2011 release.
